Over the past two decades, legal reforms have transformed the landscape for gender equality in Nepal, ensuring greater economic security for women, increased legal protection from violence, improved safeguarding of their sexual and reproductive rights and amplification of their voices in decision-making.1 Many challenges, however, still remain and the translation of legal equality into substantive equality for all women and girls in Nepal is yet to be realized.
