2017 was a landmark year for Nepal as it conducted the first elections since the adoption of its new constitution andthe first at local level in more than 17 years. The elections were a tremendous success, both in terms of quality and mobilization, demonstrating the strong attachment of the Nepali people to democracy. It was especially rewarding for UNDP to see hundreds of women and youth beneficiaries of our socio-economic empowerment projects chosen to represent their communities in executive or legislative functions. 2017 was also the last year of the Programming Cycle 2013-2017 for UNDP Nepal. A lot of efforts were put and consultations held for the formulation of a new Country Programme, as well as contributing to the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) 2018-2022, building on lessons learned, Nepal development priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of Agenda 2030. Despite being the last year of the cycle, many results were achieved in partnership with Government, civil society and other development partners and are presented in this year's Annual Report.
